Here's the shading on my first tattoo. It's actually become more of a project than I had originally anticipated. I get the cross shaded in next and after that I'm having the skin around the black flames filled in with red, orange, and yellow flames. I didn't want it to turn out looking like a tribal tattoo and it sort of did, but I think the fire shading around the black flames will help with that some.

My artist was using a pneumatic Neuma tattoo machine which uses air instead of the standard electric tattoo machine. It's supposed to be less traumatic on the skin and lets it heal faster.

Before anyone asks, yes, it did hurt. The worst part on me was the top back part of my shoulder and next to my neck. The rest was pretty tolerable after a few minutes. The shading was a little easier to take than the outlining too and I think knowing what to expect helped too.
