the receiver eventually need a electric wire to power it.
so why wireless?
if the monitor has other interface that can power up the receiver then it is wireless!

@hiyoitsmo because it's a lot easier...what if you don't own a television, and want to move your monitor to the living room so you can have a t.v. there? you wouldn't have to move your computer there too, just the monitor. then you could play whatever you wanted from your computer room. it would make televisions pointless lol..you wouldn't be able to watch broadcast TV but that stuff sucks anyway.
