Penn State vs. North Carolina - 2nd Rnd NCAA Tournament 3/18/01

Penn State continued its Cinderella run through the 2nd-round - defeating 2nd-seeded North Carolina 82-74 at the Superdome in New Orleans. Penn State was led by Charlotte-native Titus Ivory's 21 points, 21 points from All-Big Ten point guard Joe Crispin, and 19 points and 9 rebounds from Gyasi Cline-Heard. In addition to PSU's 3 senior starters, Brandon Watkins, Tyler Smith, Jon Crispin, Jamaal Tate, Marcus Banta, and Ndu Egekeze all made key contributions against a stacked Tar Heels squad comprised of All-American Joseph Forte, future 1st-rnd pick Brendan Haywood, and future NFL players Julius Peppers and Ronald Curry. The win secured Penn State's first Sweet 16 appearance since 1954.
