How to sample a shallow well for the general parameters that a number of our permitted facilities need.

  • dtw - total depth x .65 = casing volume for 4"

    .16 for 2'

    1.47 for 6"

  • @caifan200 It is required for you to go through HAZWOPER training for groundwater sampling so you know how to protect yourself from the Contaminant in the Groundwater and/or soil.

  • @caifan200 It's pretty typical to do HAZWOPER training before doing any type of this work. ;) Have fun doing the 40 hours. Bring snacks

  • Great job on the improvised flow through cell. Personally I like the Hana 9828 multi parameter probe with it's 100 ml flow through cell. I normally do low-flow purging instead of 3 well volumes which is more concerned with minimum draw down.

Also, was that a 4 inch diameter well? You may want to check your math for well volumes. I take the # of feet and X by 0.041 then multiply the diameter of the well squared.

    Example: 4 in well with 7.25 ft water column, 7.25 X 0.041 X 4^2 = 4.76 gal.

  • Do you have to go trough the hazwoper training before you allowed to perform water sampling?

  • Ive seen manholes that say observation well, is that what that is?

  • Thank You!
