God's Pallette: China's Redlands

The Redlands are in the Wuming Mountains in Southwest China about 100 miles from Kunming ,and are one of China's best kept secrets. Very few Chinese know about the place. Centuries old farming methods are used by the farmers. Iron oxide in the soil gives the land a rusty red color. The colors of the fields vary during the year depending on the crops planted, the time of day, the sunlight and the time of year. Every inch of the mountains that can be planted is terraced. The valleys are also fertile.The farmers live in picturesque villages. The Redlands are a photographers and videographers delight.
