This is an amazing video of Greg Anderson from Dundas Parkside high school running the 3000m at OFSAA 1987 at McMaster University. He set an OFSAA record and it is the Canadian National record for his age. This was a North American record for 22 years until Hernandez German from California broke it in 2009.
Sean Cleary of Georgetown took the field out fast and spread out the pack. His efforts assited Greg to run the record breaking race. Brendan Matthias pushed Greg for 5 laps (Brendan later won Canadian Junior 1500 meter Championship and set a Canadian Jr. 1500 meter record of 3:39.1 and then went on to the1992 Olympics)
Greg's record still stands today. Enjoy the race!

Yvess, your 8:18.46 is a respectable time. Probably top 5 of all Ontario times.

  • My apologies to 2010runway as that was MY post and NOT theirs. I am new to fb, sorry, JSF

  • Now THAT is a race! This is absolutely incredible, and a perfectly strategic performance from both Greg Anderson and Brendan Matthias. What an inspiration! Now if I could only break my PB of 11:02...

  • Greg was 1 grade ahead of me and I owe the inspiration to remain active to him to this day actually. I had such a HUUUUGE crush on him in high school but never acted upon it - not me to do so. His strides weren't just "running", he made it an absolute "art" form and the crowd always just grew silent upon watching him as he rounded the last laps. Sure would be nice to hear from him again, he was never vain and THAT was something in High School. I knew he'd succeed at anything he'd do, JStephF

  • 1. Greg Anderson, 8:00.20,2. Brendan Matthias, 8:13.80 3. Guy Schultz, 8:31.70

    4. Nick Tsioros, 8:33.10 5. B. Pilgrim, 8:41.10 6. A. Forster, 8:42.60

  • That was my last high school race. Thanks for uploading this. Never did findout my exact time or finish in this but think somewhere around 10th in 8:53 according to a friend.
