My dad's criticism of W.C. was that he was laughing so much at what happened that he might miss the next thing.

@cqsallie It's his utter lack of sentimentality, his complete avoidance of Chaplinesque treacle, his energetic pacing and his verbal quickness along with the very sound of his voice. Timeless and anarchical but also very real and identifyable. The greatest comedian ever and hands down 'cuz he still makes us giggle and laugh Timeless, totally timeless....

@alan49624 Laugh out loud? Of course! There's one in which WC Fields is a shopkeeper and a blind man comes in. I haven't seen it here, yet, but too hilarious for words.
Why is WC Fields still so damned funny? I just don't know. But, OMG, I love him....

Thank you - pleasure's all mine. The Pharmacist is one of my favorites, especially the scene where The Great Man "helps" the checkers player.
