  • After dealing with his miserable selfish father it is no wonder that he looked on life as being lonely. To me the real "Angel" in the book was his hardworking mother that received no thanks or love from any of the ungrateful bunch. My father was born in 1900 & had Influenza in 1918 like Ben, but his mother saved him.

  • died young but he still living through his writing and books

  • T. Wolfe is one of my favourites!!! My privelege to have visited the Thomas Wolfe Museum at Asheville, NC and got a copy of the original version of O Lost ( Look Homeward, Angel)

  • America's best and worst writer. Have to confess the kind of soundtrack used here -- "Weather Channel" -- seems entirely out of place, and doubt the fitful master of poetic prose that Wolfe could be, would disagree. All this aside, when Wolfe is good, the eloquence and grandeur are wonderful. One is tempted to say unbeatable. Thank you!

  • But O Lost! he wrote such racially hurtful, negative commentary with racist overtones and epithets. I was shocked when I first read his work. "In his defense" I suppose he reflected what white, middle class, public school-educated Americans felt was accepted and appropriate, but it was surprising coming from a man who felt so sorry for himself to debase people he felt were below him. Don't make sense.

  • AGREED.

  • Thanks for posting this. Wolfe is a great writer in need of a revival.
