Interesting...the final recorded version doesn't sound much different. It's basically the same arrangement with strings.

Not quite a "true story":p! Just to set the record straight: It's true that Joel wrote the music first 99 % of the time, (''moving out'' and ''we didnt start the fire'' being exceptions). With McCartney it's often music and lyrics at the same time. "Sodomy" was not the working title of "Honesty"!!! Billy's working title was "Home again", but Liberty the drummer mockingly sang "Sodomy" which pushed Billy to write a real set of lyrics.

Like many other songwriters (e.g. Paul McCartney) Billy comes up with the tune first and writes the lyrics later. They'll assign a nonsense working title until the lyrics are written. Billy said the working title to this song was "Sodomy". True story.
