Georgia's President addressed Munich Security Conference

2011-02-06

Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili delivered a speech as part the 47th Munich Security Conference earlier this afternoon.

Saakashvili placed focus on Georgia's frozen territorial conflicts, Russian occupation and Russia's aggressive policy against Georgia. He once again talked about Georgia's peaceful initiatives. "Georgia is not only user but the supplier of security as well," he stated.

The Conference continues for already the third day in Germany. Today's session is dedicated to discussions about global and regional security challenges.

The Georgian delegation members will hold bilateral meetings on the sideline of the forum. Georgia's territorial integrity and Russia's non-fulfillment of the internationally taken commitments will be the main topics for talks.

Saakashvili met with Angela Merkel, German Chancellor on February 6. The face-to-face meeting lasted for about half an hour. Georgia's President also held talks with Kevin Rudd, Foreign Minister of Australia. Through talks it was decided that the Embassy of Australia would be opened in Georgia in the nearest future.

Georgia's President attended the dinner organized by Bavarian Prime Minister Horst Seehofer on February 6. Ban ki-Moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai and other leaders attended the dinner.

About 350 delegates, 46 state leaders, foreign and defense ministers are participating in the forum. Over the past decades, the Munich Security Conference has become the major security policy conference worldwide. Each year it brings together senior figures from around the world to engage in an intensive debate on current and future security challenges
