The 5th in a series of a re-run of my "online lyre lessons"...this time mercifully recorded with my nice sparkly new "geeky" laptop webcam! ;o) In this lesson, I will show you how to play "Yigdal", in the Natural Minor Mode. A studio quality recording of this lovely traditional Shabbat Hymn can be heard on track 22 of my debut album, "King David's Lyre; Echoes of Ancient Israel" ...

My Albums of Ancient Lyre Music are available, anywhere in the world, from iTunes:

  • Whoa. The Lyre is a pretty interesting instrument. Its like a Kalimba, Harp, Guitar combined! It seems easy and sounds pretty cool. Are there any special tunings so that you can play aimlessly beautiful music for the Lyre? I like instruments that has that feature to it, because you can get a feel of the instrument before actually playing some cool songs, and maybe some viking songs! ^_^

  • @MAT0R0 It is certainly the most versatile instrument I have ever learnt to play!...the combination of finger-plucked & plectrum plucked tones is like playing a harp & guitar simultaneously! Regarding tunings, the most amazing scale to freely improvise on, is the mystical Middle Eastern "Hijaz" mode: D#EFG#ABCD#EF A complete list of tunings is given in te "Online Lyre Lessons" section of my "ancientlyre" website - URL given on my Youtube Channel Page...
