The aircraft developed engine trouble while en route from Bari Italy to Djerba, Tunisia The crew contacted Palermo ATC for an emergency landing but ditched into the sea approximately 19 miles north of Palermo. The pilot reported that both engines had failed. Fuel starvation. The maintenance crew incorrectly installed a fuel gauge for a ATR-42 on the ATR-72. Both instruments look very similar.

  • @feelthejoy I'm sure he knows it, but under stress you tend to say things, and not do them, so the checklist is very important. Look at how many aircraft are turned away on final after being told their gear is still up.

  • @feelthejoy Just making sure he has it right, need to have it fresh in your mind to do it properly. It's a stressful situation when you have no engines....

  • @FIFAflex1 Why doesn't this happen more often then?

  • It's so awkward to hear him actually reading out the ditching procedure from the manual... shouldn't he know that? I realize they have a lot of info they need to master but still

  • @699backstab "Religionists are subhuman and must be euthanized" you say.Ha, you sound just like a fanatical 'religionist' there (and I say that as an atheist).

  • "Pilots in 16-death crash jailed for praying instead of flying ..."

  • This is very sad. However, they were a brave crew, unfortunately there was a lack of skill which is perfectly understandable during an eminent tragedy. They did not feather propellers to reduce the drag on the blades so the plane could glide a further distance. The crew did not glide the aircraft at the optimum speed, as they could reach Palermo. Gharbi had a lack of instruments and experienced radio interruptions as well. (Wikipedia)

  • @Melbourne619 Why are they in jail? You should read the crash report. First of all they are the ones who had final responsibility for verifying the fuel levels. They should have realized the mistake & would have if they'd followed proper procedures. Secondly they could have made it to Palermo if they had configured the propellers correctly. They aren't heroes; just mediocre pilots lucky to be alive who caused unnecessary deaths with their incompetence & inattention to detail.

  • @MrBigInfidel who demands you believe in God? have you come through time from the medevil ages? torture what are you talking about. once again another child who thinks its cool to not buy in to God. holy shit love him or he will torture you for ever? wait a minute you arent tortured are you ,, you dont believe in God. hmmm seems like theres a hole there.

  • @thegreenbastard42011 " when every last atheist has and would call out to god" There is this invisible man that hides in the sky that demands you believe he exists or he will torture you forever. He came to earth as his own son to sacrifice himself to himself to appease himself so that he could forgive sins. Love him or he will torture you forever, you can pray and he may answer, but if you are an amputee you will never get a new limb. There are some things he will never do. He also has a penis.
