@dgolijan This is just a fact. Google head grounds person Wimbledon. The grass is absolutely different that it was in the '80's and '90's. This is not speculation - it's fact. Google Jim Curley , tournament director of the US open too. The courts are slower - this is an absolute certainty.

@Kommaseir i will check the article out...but every unforced error is a lost point you know...I find the serve volley play to be unusable againts today's greats...after all...the player that are using serve-volley are not at the top
-
@Kommaseir Why do you think the courts are slower? .... they are not...
-
@dgolijan One last reason is also because the courts are slower, way slower, and the balls are slower. Every court is like a clay court. Case in point, I think Nadal, in the '80's or '90's, would have been a great clay court champion - but no way on this earth would have he achieved the results he did in Wimbledon or even some of the hard court surfaces. An amazing player - but no where near a Laver, McEnroe or Sampras.

@dgolijan Also check out a site called top tennis training . There is a great, and recent article on the subject of serving a volleying. Edberg, Becker and Sampras are in it. There are some great video's in the article as well. Look up 'Who Killed the Art of Serve and Volley?'
That moment...when Boris raised his hands at 2/6 2/4 was one of my favourites in tennis history. And he was right, after thet he won the match. Phenomenal... My Idol back then

The shotmaking of them both is incredible. Look at how they're mixing it up, trying to show the opponent a different look any stroke.
With Nadal you have high topsin forehand to the opponents backhand followed by another high topsin forehand, finished with a high topsin forehand.
