2 kinds of solar panels explained by Betsy Ferris Wyman of Sundog Solar. Partial shade affects the performance of Photovoltaic Silicon ingot PV panels. This company specializes in home installation of solar panels in the low-sun environment of the Northeast USA. Thurston Sack and Ernie Tetrault are our hosts in this weekly educational program for public access and cable access stations across the U.S.
RAS1230. You are wrong! Photovoltaic cells that create electricity is powered by LIGHT not heat! It's the solar heater what is powered by heat!

That sounds like a good idea but it will not work,
The solar cells are powered by heat generated by the light not the light itself.

take those panels and put them in the basement.first you take a parabolic solar concentrator and put an robotic arm on it to follow the suns path.then make the focal point a mirrored shape cone that will send the light down through mirrored glass tubing straight into a mirrored shape glass box inside the mirrored shape box will be several solar panels that spin to keep them cool the mirrored box must have the mirrors inward to reflect the light sending from the parabolic focal point.ken van horn

...it the thin film amorphous cells can take the higher heat loads without a decrease of performance or deteroation then it might make be feasable to scavnage the heat from the back side of solar heating. Getting the strait facts is no easy task , so speculation is flimsy, as is shamefully true with most comidity these days.
~Now what was it bill hicks wisely sugest it would be better if the markateers did ?

if thin film solar is still less efficient, they should be put on solar thermal water based heat exchanger panels, to use that large percentage of energy not converted!

you are correct

Do you see photo-voltaics on cars? Love it!

she's totally wrong on that. it doesn't matter what the solar cell is made of for shading. it matters how you connect the panels. amorphous won't do better than crystalline just because it's amorphous.
