@elliottsmitth No, he's right. The Decemberists cover this on the To Elliott, From Portland tribute album.

@thechrissinator wrong song there buddy

i might be the only one, but i feel like becks voice fits this song and a lot of elliotts other music really well.

When you listen to a tribute performance, keep in mind you're listening to the sum of impressions - as interpreted by an artist - of someone else's work. This is what Beck got out of an Elliott Smith song, and a pretty difficult one at that!
Pretty clear he had an influence on Beck. Just listen to his live performances of Broken Tears. Man, LA must have been a really fu ed up place in the late 90's/ early naughties...

@Olewastaken Why would anyone take any comments on YouTube seriously? To me, they're proof that humanity isn't evolving; it's doomed.
It's not bad. It's almost impossible to cover Elliott without sounding a little off/whiny, even if you are a musical genius like Beck.

Beck's voice may not sound the best in this recording. But don't forget that he was playing this about a month after Elliott died, probably as a hommage. Maybe it's because of the emmotion that he couldn't sing it totally well.
