I thought these "experts" say this was going to happen on May 5, 2000. I suppose if it don't happen in 12' they find another date a little further into the future, that way they will never be wrong and never run out of willing followers.

If this happens every 25,000 + years, then core samples should reflect that. This end of the world stuff has been going on since people started thinking about it. Advice: Just before the doomsday date, don't go out and do things you'd only do if you knew what day was your doom. Forgive no loans, don't go out and do things you can't get away with.

People just hear "The end of the world" and forget the part "as we know it". People are so god damn terrified that the world is going to end in some tragic way but never stop to think that maybe something completely different will happen.
And if death is inevitable and we have no control over a 2012 apocalypse, why worry?
