Hail the size of golf balls, gale force winds and a hell of a lot of water. Over 1 billion dollars in damage (worse than the Melbourne hail storm not long before). There was even a land slide at Jacobs Ladder. It was a balmy 30 degrees just before I was wading in knee deep iced water. Many windows and windscreens shattered and trees fallen on cars. 150,000 houses left without power and many road accidents occured. This is the most extreme weather I have ever witnessed in Perth.

Perth has witnessed some of the hotest summer periods, coldest winter days, dryest spells of weather, and now the most intense hail storm in a long time.

Perhaps the subtle stresses of human induced climate change should be given more emphasis as we are clearly experiencing increasingly destructive and inconsistent weather patterns.

  • I remember that afternoon. I was supposed to go to the Education library in Nedlands for my presentation the next day. Felt too lazy and tired and slept. Then awoke with all the hail . And my laundry was outside. It smashed my friend's window and she came running into my room.

  • That was mad. I was near Kwinana and it was bad but nowhere as bad as the northern suburbs. The West reported the storm that morning and people commented on the west that they were full of shit because it was a beaut day with a perfect sky but wow it came in fast!!!
