The Appalachian Trail Song

I kept thinking this song could be sung (slowly) while hiking the trail, or around the campfire in the evening. More verses could be made up for such an occasion, especially verses with humorous lyrics aimed at some of those present around the campfire.

Production and lyrics by Michael Long, music taken from the Erie Canal Song written in 1904. Mike Long hiked part of the trail with his brother and later wrote the lyrics to this song. The trail is a very tough hike and I think Mike's lyrics capture the experience well.

Nice one. Impressive soloing between 2:00 and 2:30. The song would also do good on guitar (but of course the mandolin is your thing). I just was on holidays in Canada and the images of the nature do bring back some memories. Thx.

@tonvenhuizen Thanks very much. I could probably play it on guitar if I try ... I'll try it tomorrow. If I feel it works, once I feel comfortable with it on guitar, I'll record a take or two and see how it goes. If it's good enough I'd post it.

A lof of the pictures actually came from the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina. I've crossed the Appalachian Trail on short hikes to see water falls and other sights, without a pack, and I can see how it is exhausting to travel that way.
