I love Fleming, she has a fantastic voice and incredible control, but the video - RIDICULOUS! Why do this? I hope she made lots of money for this and gave it all to good causes.

i love the way the drums are played at the exact time when she sings 'i know it', it adds an extremely powerful dramatic effect.....yay!

I wish I could watch this video just once without crying.

@gustopheles I think the lip treatment is an homage to the geisha even though no whiteface. I listen with my eyes closed to focus on the music and the emotion of the aria. She is planning with her lover for his return as a joyful event, and to cling to that happiness rather than the sadness of his leaving. What we know that they don't is that he returns with his new wife to take Butterfly's son away and then she commits suicide. The utter poignancy of the music is foreshadowing of these events.

Beautiful Butterfly should be sung by an ethereal voice regardless of whether it's a dramatic or lyric soprano. The important thing is that an exquisite voice delivers the exquisite music - which Fleming does better than most others.

This is so powerful and beautiful it just makes me want to cry. *cries*

I love the way Fleming portrays sadness and pain. In a way it's the deepest emotion that touches us and I love the way her voice captures that.
