  • No snapping this airplane!! The tail WILL come off. I had a MW Citabria a few yrs. ago; crashed after the horz. stab. fluttered. I should have braced the tail somehow. I've since heard of a guy in Denmark who used plywood in the tail and wired it. No I didn't cut the balsa puting the covering on - it failed because it is a design that will not let you snap.

  • @dave0mary Hi dave0mary I have not braced the tail in any way...it is built straight from the box without any modifications. As you can see I do snap it a lot with no problems. I am even way overpowered with a Saito 1.25. It does great snap rolls! It does great tailslides, flat spins, even gotten a few knife edge loops out of it without any problems with flutter of anykind. Sorry to hear your Citabria crashed. It is a sweet flying plane...or at least mine is!

  • @MissoulaRC: Yes - a very sweet flying plane. I had mine about 3 years with prob. 50 flights with a Saito .80 ... plenty of power. I was all done flying one day when a kid watching from a 1/4 mile away came by with his dad and asked if I would take it up one more time. A chance to show off??!! You betcha! As soon as it was about 100' I made a sharp turn back and it dove straight down with the whole empannage flapping. Midwest said the plane is not designed for snaps. Kid said "sorry - my fault!"

  • @dave0mary Oh man...bummer. It wasn't his fault! Well as you can see my snaps, rolls, spins...the whole nine yards. It it was a flaw in the design I think i would have pulled the tail off by now. I have put it in some pretty stressful maneuvers. I would seem that with that many flights before the tail feather came off that it wasn't really a design flaw but possibly stress that caused it to come apart. Did the rudder come off or the entire stabilizer break off?

  • Thanks for watching. It has a 80 1/2 inch wing span. Weighs in at about 8 1/2 lbs. flying weight.

  • @MissoulaRC: The horz stab fluttered. I saw it as it was going down. Kept the elevator servo from moving. As I've said, when I called an engineer at Midwest, he said you should not snap this plane. Good luck with yours.

  • really nice flying ,that plane is nice size whats the Wing Span?
