This is a weird trick/glitch I found in Super Mario Galaxy 2 by accident.
And fortunately, later, I found how to replicate it ! It allows you to longjump out of the water :). Actually, the trick isn't hard to do, so that's nice. That's almost as easy to do than the infinite flutter glitch...

I'm going to explain how to do it, hoping it'll be clear enough.

How to do it : Press Z, immediatly swing your remote, and then press A.
Try to press Z and swing the remote almost at the same time. And of course you have to surface before pressing Z (otherwise the character dives).

Description of the video :
- The first three clips show how we could benefit from the trick. I mean, longjumping out of the water is certainly the faster way to reach the ground !
- The fourth clip just shows how easy the trick is. With more practice, I'm sure we could link the longjumps faster. This clip also proves that the trick can be placed in human speedruns, even non-segmented, I think. It doesn't require luck, but only training.
- Finally, the last clip comes from Super Mario Galaxy 1. So, yeah, the trick works in Mario Galaxy 1 too ! I also show how fast Lugi can longjump INSTEAD OF swimming.
Idea : Since Luigi swims fast in SMG1, I don't know if it would be faster to longjump instead of swimming... But still, in SMG2, Luigi doesn't swim very fast... So maybe what I show in this clip could be used in SMG2... I hope you get what I mean.
And by the way, I still think the longjumps can be linked faster.

The trick works with Mario as well (in both SMG1 and SMG2).
I usually play with Luigi because he has better jumps.

I also tried to backflip instead of longjumping but it seems impossible. Even with repositioning the stick to its center, the character always longjumps. However someone should try it, because it could be useful somewhere I hope. Also, a sideflip may be possible, but I don't know how (the character seems to ALWAYS longjump).

  • This is super hard. I've only managed done this once. He starts to dive, does not, and jumps out instead. No longjump. And yes I'm pretty sure I'm at the surface of the water, its where the air meter disappears.

Please try to explain it in a more simple way.

  • @Venom45000VR : In a more simple way ? I can't. Practise and practise again and you will manage to do it everytime!

  • how hard do u swing ur wiimote cause i can only do this every once in a while i always end up spinning

  • @ZJLXN : The way you swing the wiimote doesn't matter, you just have to do it almost at the same time pressing Z.

  • I bet that is quite useful! And welcome to SDA.

  • @sloobro : Yeah, so do I. Thank you !

But sometimes I can get a few in a row then I cant do it again.. lol

  • This can be a good trick in speedruns.

  • I found out how to do this on Mario Wiki.
