It depends on your firmware and the folders you have slow everything down i have a iphone 4 and it slows that down even try deleting some folders

Actually there's a new update (ios 4.1) which improves the performance in the iPhone 3G so it should run fine after the update comes out.

I have a 3gs with ios 4 and its actually about 2x faster now, i love it.

Just get the iPhone 4. If you cannot, do not use your 3g anymore. it sucks..
