  • Interesting timeline although obviuosly leaning towards US history. I was thinking of doing something similar for European arms but I thought of putting time horizontally rather than vertically. Countries could then be put vertically with an illustrated line for the adoption of each service weapon. By scrolling up and down you could compare what each nation was using at a particular time. Problem is to add noteable figures, patents and wars without it all becoming too cumbersome.

  • @32marlin

    good points, thanks !

I liked a few of the horizontal ones, but I went with a vertical list to aid in printing and scrolling.

But I do like how horizontal models lend themselves to layers like you say.

The US focus wasn't by intent. I was just able to find more dates from US sources, perhaps because I am searching in English.. ?

  • keep refining the timeline, I am a gun enthusiast and would like to know as much as I can about the history of firearms, and since I can't buy a gun yet (16) I'll just stare at them online, lol.

  • @1blackdeath51501

Right on, good to know it will get some use. If / when you find a correction or addition, let us know we'll keep it updated

  • This list is brilliant I'm looking to study forensic ballistics so I need to know as much information relating to firearms and ballistics as possible this timeline is brilliant, Please post the updated version People need to see this!

  • @Fishyninjabreadman

thanks.. I was looking for as much ammo info as I could find, but it was not as 'easy' to find as the firearms info..

If / when you can add to the list, please do !!

    Good luck with your studies

  • You have all the mayor american firearms there, but none of the german ones. Like k98, mp18, stg44 :( Neither i see there a Mondragon rifle, the first semi-automatic rifle. So this must be a history of american guns mostly?

  • @GunWebsites Will Do will, keep an ear/eye out for you

  • @GunWebsites ya, the m2 is americas first assault rifle, it had limited use in world war two but served mostly in korea, it was later replaced by the m-14, its pretty much a little known fact it even existed

  • The first semi-automatic pistol in the world was the Mauser C96, I'm surprised that didn't get a mention.
