I thought this would be an interesting little exercise.

I recorded myself mind mapping an imaginary photo journalist's weblog site and then proceeded to sketch the site on paper.

I then moved onto Adobe Fireworks and fleshed out a design concept for "Joe".

Please note, that although this seems quick, there is a lot more to designing a website than what I show in this video. There is still the coding after this and a lot of client discovery before. Not to mention time during the project spent discussing and tweaking the project.

I am a freelance interface designer and you can find me at http://www.allchorn.com/.

  • Nice video, What program did you use for the data tree? Visio?

  • @TheDefectoable thanks... it's called Freemind. It's an open source mind mapping application.

  • Its well designed in regards to layout. But it's extremely ugly.

I don't want to come to conclusions but I'd assume from this you were taught everything you know via college and uni, and have never had any real passion for the ART of design.

But as I say, that's just an assumption, and probably an uninformed one. It would make no sense to go all out for a video time lapse.

  • @z0mgrugbyreturns agreed, its not a pretty design. I did this to demonstrate the process. Looking back on it now, 2 years later... I see a lot that I don't like about the design.

And 90% of what I know is from industry experience. I don't design in Fireworks anymore (Photoshop now).

  • @blokishguy, it's called freemind. Google it. It's open source.
