The emotional moment a group of chimpanzees saw daylight for the first time after being kept in a laboratory for their whole lives has been caught on film.
The video shows the animals edging out of the door hesitantly at first and looking curiously up at the sky, But they then appear to celebrate their new found freedom by hugging each other and laughing.
The 38 chimps were taken from their mothers shortly after they were born and kept in a research facility in Austria. They were used for tests based on diseases such as HIV and hepatitis and kept in isolation
They were rescued in 1997 after the pharmaceutical company behind the research was sold and taken to a farm where keepers have since tried to reintroduce them to the outside world.
It is only now that experts felt the time was right and the chimps were ready to experience fresh air.
Cruelty to animals must stop now !

Read "The Plague Dogs" if you want perspective from both sides.
Caring for animals is not exclusive of caring of humans. I give a crap about animals being used in experiments AND children starving in third world countries. Why does it always have to be one or the other with some people? It's stupid.

chimps dont smile with happiness - that's a fear grin because they are nervous about the newness of the outside world. The hugging is reassurance for each other, again an anxiety reaction. I wish you people would learn to read up on such things and not assume.

@Underbat1 Before you make an ass out of yourself by assuming things, why dont you look up the SV40 foundation, and read the article that was reprinted from the Albany Law journal of Sciences & Technology. 10-30% of the vaccines were tainted with SV40, which causes cancer, up until 1963. The tainted samples were replaced after 63, but never recalled. Asshole. There, now you've 'leant' a nit of history. Dumb ass.
