Visit www.BluegrassBooksOnline.com to download your free Tab and Mp3's to accompany this lesson. The lesson tunes are recorded and laid out in the same way all of the tunes in Bluegrass Guitar Jam Tunes and Bluegrass Mandolin Jam Tunes, both book/2 Studio Quality CD sets were written by Rick also. Free samples of Tab and Mp3's from Rick's books are also available for download at www.BluegrassBooksOnline.com.

Each tune has three tracks. The 1st track is melody with band @ 106 bpm. The 2nd track is no melody with band @ 106 bpm. The 3rd track is full band, 3 times through @ 170 bpm. Remember to practice your rhythm playing as well as the picking, you're going to need it.

The lessons are designed for intermediate players, and are intended for private/home study use. Of course, feel free to contact me with any questions you might have, Rick@bluegrassbooksonline.com, I will get back to you.

  • Hi Dave,

Thanks for your kind words. This is my main mandolin and it is a Gibson Nouveau that was Japanese made around 1984.

  • Hey Rick, that's interesting. I was not even aware that there are Japanese made Gibsons. I have worked through most of your mandolin book and it's been a godsend! Has def elevated my playing. I'm on a nice A syle f hole Breedlove but am seriously thinking of an Fstyle upgrade....so many choices and not so easy to find good instruments to try.

    Best,

    David

  • this Monroe tune is sweet, its good finger and timing practice for less experienced players. If you listen to Bill Monroe play it at speed its awesome, but just to let ya know that those fast bluegrass tunes are basically the same so just try to slow things down so you can get better and then speed it up and AMAZE your friends

  • yeah, you should just tune your mandolin with a tuner, it probably is tuned down a step or half step, its not uncommon, but yeah this is GDAE

  • this for this video and the tab

  • is this tuned g d a e ? sounds different

    from my mandolin

  • i do to but only when i play some songs
