Digging through my old stuff, I found this old video from a "how-to build your own PC" guide I was working on at the time.

We would often have people mount motherboards directly to the case w/o stand offs, so this video was necessary.

  • where do u put the washers at on top of the spacers befroe u place the motherbaord on or do u place them between the screw and the holes on top

  • Excellent question!

They go under the head of the screw to prevent the turning screw head from scratching up the PCB.

  • How far should i screw the standoffs in?? because it feels like they want to stop spinning after a little bit but im pretty sure if i forced it i could meke it go a lot farther.... PLEASE HELP

  • Ah I remember when I fitted my first brand new motherboard to a new case. I forgot all about the hand screws to keep the board off the case and I fried the board turning it on. I screwed the board straight to the case. lol I took it to my Uncle whos an IT pro and he told me what I didnt do. I felt like such an idiot after doing that. Luckily I got a replacement and fitted it properly and everything worked first time. Still on that PC now lol

  • I bought a used ATX case, antec 300, it acme with just 2 standoffs with hex shape the person forgot to take off and no other screws besides the case fan screws, I need to know if a thumb screw is safe to secure a motherboard, please reply
