Using 3ds max Paint Deformation tool to create landscapes and a face. I am currently working on a new project. It is a website called http://keyboard-and-mouse.com. Take a look and let me know what you think.

  • I'm using 3ds max 9 and the paint deformation tools seems extremely limited. I think it would be better if you used zbrush for its more extensive sculpting functionality.

  • You are correct in the fact that zbrush will be much more extensive in its sculpting functionality. The hole program is based around it. I just wanted to show people the basics of the paint deformation tool and show a use for it that you might not have thought of. Having said that, you can still get really good results if you take your time with this method. Thank you for your comment.

  • Great tut, tks Hammack I've looking for a simplier way to model instead of going straight with vertecies and edges and I just saw before yuou a tut about Zbrush wich I never tried but found appealing for least modeling. But I love the idea of a one program does it all and tks to you straight after, you kept me going with 3DSM hehe I'm gonna go see what else you got for us :P

  • Glad you liked it. I have been trying to decide what to do for my next tutorial. The 2 I have done so far have both been organic in shape. I was thinking of going down the inorganic road next. Or maybe one on texturing. If anyone has anything they would like to learn, let me know.

  • Nice tutorial! I have use the paint deformation before but it never occur to me that it could be use to create a face.

  • Thanks for the complement. If you take your time and lower you brush strength, you can get some really nice results on creating faces with this tool. Another good tip is to make nice steady strokes. This will help to avoid pinching.
