Tony Allen cut his teeth playing fiddle on the streets and in the subway stations of Toronto, and while doing so he developed a strong interest in Appalachian music of the '20's and '30's. Along the way, he met many like-minded musicians, and since 1997, he has been performing regularly with The Backstabbers Country Stringband, adding his old-time style to a unique blend of honkytonk country, bluegrass rhythms and Carter family ballads. More recently, Tony has been performing every Monday night at The Local Pub on Roncesvalles Avenue in Toronto with Canadian bluegrass greats Chris Quinn and Marc Roy, and has formed an honest to goodness Old-Time stringband, The Good Right Arm, with Chris Coole playing clawhammer banjo and guitar, Kristine Schmitt singing her pure lead and harmony vocals, and Sam Petite playing bass. Tony is proud to announce the release of his first recording of Old-Time music, "STEAM", which is Tony's very personal take on a collection of rare gems from the early days of recorded rural music of the American South.
