Icelanders vote on repaying UK and Netherlands

Icelanders are voting in a referendum on whether or not to pay back British and Dutch investors who lost billions of euros in the Icelandic banking collapse.




The prime minister Johanna Sigurdardottir urged voters to approve the repayments but surveys showed that was not a foregone conclusion.




'I believe it's important the answer is a clear "yes",' the premier said, 'but it is difficult with issues like this if the result is close. So I'm hoping for a resounding "yes" but we'll face whatever comes.'

Icelnd has been my hero for the last 3 years and I hope they hold firm in defiance of their creditors.

@Bonez0r The problem is bigger than paying back money. The system itself is the problem now.  I've lost LOT'S of money in the past 4 years and ya know what? I really don't believe in the whole damn thing anymore and I don't care. It stressess me out and I'm open to other options now.

The concept of property is a primitive mental perspective and I want to see it eradicated from the face of the earth.

How can you put repayment of a debt to a vote? If I owe the government £2.6billion in unpaid taxes, I can't have my family take a vote on whether or not I will pay it back! No court in the world could find in favour of the Icelandics on this one. This is an agreement between the debtor and the creditor that payment of said debt WILL be paid if it is possible. It is possible ergo it should be paid.

So... the guy's theory is that YES means paying for 35 years, but voting NO means... something he's not sure about. So he votes YES because he's afraid of the unknown? What exactly will happen if Iceland votes No? The video warned of 'ostracisation' . Is that all? Doesn't seem that bad....? What is the trouble?

Sounds a better policy then indebting your nation and enslaving the next generation because of bankers' deeds.
