  • Good point. I´ve often wondered this myself. How did the initial column of smoke/dust remain static.

  • The behaviour of the plumes can be seen more clearly if you scrub back-and forth by dragging the video position handle.

In this way you can see:

How the 'ball' of smoke created at collapse initiation expands into a huge spherical smoke mass drifting left.

How the large darker smoke plume emerges from center frame after collapse.

How there is a ridiculous volume of smoke emerging from the right of the frame.

Remember scale. WTC 7 is 147m tall. The plumes are HUGE.

  • this is truly horrific footage, femr2. thanks for uploading.

  • Wow. yeah I see what you mean.

There´s no difference between the pyroclastic movement of a volcano´s ashes and that gigantic plume.

The first wave of smoke could maybe, just maybe explained by the energy from the collapse, but the second..which seems to be even larger?

  • Let the video load in full. Pause. Then drage backand forth from 1:12 to the end of the video. A large darker smoke cloud emerges.

    What caused it ?

Again, remember scale. The height of the smoke clouds dwarfs the original towers.

  • I think that one explanation for this is an upward rush of very hot air ,coupled with the concrete being pulverised to an almost talc like consistency.

There´s NO way this amount of heat was caused by the dying fire in the tower.

And how can the dust get to such a fine state?

  • so whats wrong
