John Dewey High School isn't your typical NYC high school. You can literally look at the school and say "Wow that high school is situated in New York City's Brooklyn?!" because of its huge field and campus makes it like look like an American suburban high school. Lining up with the theories of John Dewey, this institution definitely is college-like, challenging but at the same time, motivational. At JDHS, school spirit is still strongly present. A simply beautiful high school is what JDHS is.

Some of the comments here are awfully negative. John Dewey High School, 2012, a new year for hope. Thankfully the idiotic idea of closing JDHS has been abolished and day by day, Dewey is improving. Along with the installation of more teachers, sports teams, funding for extra curricular activities and an afterschool program for extra-mile tutoring. This school is unique for its ideals on education, and the atmosphere. There are so many positive things to say about this school, it's unbelievable.

In 1973, when faced with massive budget cuts the students and faculty of John Dewey HS organized a rally in front of the Board of Education offices at 110 Livingston St. It was a huge rally and got major press coverage at the time.
This rally today is a great example of the Dewey spirit that was alive in 1973 and still alive today.
God bless these students and teachers for taking matters into their own hands, pushing back on the forces that would destroy public education & close this school.
