Andrew Mwenda is probably one of the pre-eminent journalists-turned-entrepreneurs in Uganda today. And it has not come easy. Mwenda has been arrested and released for over 15 times by government for allegedly "being in possession of seditious material and publishing inflammatory articles. He now runs "The Independent" one of Uganda's premier current affairs bi-monthly news magazines, which he founded in 2007.

  • Mwenda has an exaggerated view of himself.

Mwenda is the epitome or exemplification of the very mediocrity in African journalism that he criticizes his peers of . In fact there are so many Ugandan journalists and Freelance writers that often do a much better job than Mwenda: To mention but a few:

    Ssemogerere, Kalinaki, Sengoba, Tabaire, Kalinge-Nyago, Onyango-Obbo ...

Mwenda doesnt even have a single Pulitzer prize winning book under his belt!

  • Mwenda had the enviable opportunity to be among the first journalists that came along at a time when Uganda was trying a liberal approach to freedom of the press, and has been an ardent fighter for that freedom, but Mwenda is by no means such an above average journalist in comparison to other Ugandan journalists & freelance writers that sometimes do a much better job than him.

If Mwenda's writings were of any substance, they would be reprinted in famous journals and news papers around the world

  • With the oil proceedings, he was on the fence about the whole thing even taking the government's side before investigations were complete. he spoke a lot about being independent and not just "going with the crowd". but with kabakumba matsiko, 2days into the announcement he pronounced her a crook. i like andrew, but now am starting to wonder about this "independent journalism" stuff. does she not deserve the same benefit of the doubt

  • Can you do something about the sound. Most of "NTV" videos have poor sound quality.

  • Huyo reporter anaonekana mnyonge sana. Chakula hakitoshi ama ni maumbile ?

  • Can Mwenda proves that he is not receiving money from Kagame and that therefore he is a truly independant journalist, not a crook?
