La Selva biological reserve. We stayed overnight in one of the shacks, had to look for scorpions before turning off the lights. Our Costa Rican guide showed us Toucans, Quezels, Fer de lance snake, Leaf cutter and bullet and army ants. Plant life is varied, but it is an island of rain forest amongst coffee plantations in Costa Rica. E.O.Wilson comes here to study ants. It is as close to a primeval forest as you can get unless you go to Belize or other more remote areas.

  • Actually there are other, wilder forests in Costa Rica although less accessible.

  • Our Costa Rica birding club is doing a trip near there in 2 weeks- cant wait- migration should be in full swing!

  • oh shoot, its Jaime. He was our guide, he is really cool. I was there at the end of June for about 5 days.

  • My thoughts exactly.
