  • ProTools is fucking marketing and that's all. You can do the same (if you know) in Cubase, Nuendo, Logic, Sonar, Reaper, Abelton Live. I hate people claiming that PT has something more to offer and that is a pro standard. Pure bullshit. Most user unfriendly DAW I ever tried.

  • @Vanjal

Actually, I have found Protools to be one of the most consistent and intuitive DAWs out there.

There's a certain utilitarian aspect to the design that I appreciate. Not super flashy, but very

usable, especially the command keys . they really thought that through well.

But, the bottom line is, was supposed to be a funny video that captured a lot of the

stuff that I was hearing from people that were bashing Protools...

So, don't take it too seriously :-)

  • You lucky this is a old video because i would be talking some shit to you. You and your so called "friend" just don't know shit about music.

  • I like Pro tools so far.

  • Protools is a standard from an older time. TRADITION! I don't think it's better than Cubase, Sonar, etc. There was a time when ProTools really was king and Cakewalk and the rest were utter crap...but that time is now loooonnngggg past. Old timers who spent a fortune on this stuff just want to believe their brand is still the shining best, and they can "back" it up by saying "It's the production standard & if you don't have it, you're screwed!". & they are right..cause change is hard.

  • IT'S CALLED AD/DA CONVERTERS..THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE WITH THE TRUE HD SYSTEM'S....it's the 192 INTERFACE ....THAT'S ALL!

  • @Vanjal, If you're not in post-production sound - you have no idea what you're talking about. If a two screen edit / mix window that was designed for engineers who hate computers - is unfriendly for you - maybe you should go back to using a cassette 4 track :)

If you're writing/producing music - agreed - you can do anything and everything (and usually better) in Logic or Cubase.. but when dealing with large scale editorial and tv/film mixing.. it's there for a reason.

  • =,=

  • I use a PC and used Cubase before switching to Pro Tools. Both are fantastic DAWs, but people arguing that Pro Tools is a waste of money need to realize that they're going into an industry where 90% of the professional studios you'll go to work on G5s/Mac Pros running Pro Tools HD. The ability to adapt to technology is ABSOLUTELY KEY in this industry.

Both are great, and honestly if there was no Pro Tools i'd probably still use Cubase, but using anything other than PT puts you at a disadvantage

  • @TheSuperMusicMan82 ...bottom line, give them both a try and buy what you like better. If your getting the sound you want, that's all that matters!

  • @TheSuperMusicMan82 I can't speak too much for Sonar. But Protools is like this: Great mixing and editing environment if you learn keyboard shortcuts. Just using the mouse sucks. But if you know shortcuts, very fast to do things. As of PT9, decent selection of out of the box plugins, but you will want more. Low track count compared to everything else. As of 9 no longer requires Avid Hardware. Has it's share of bugs, addressed with CS updates. Love it for film and TV sound....

  • @TheSuperMusicMan82 ...The questions to ask are: Does the interface make sense? Can I accomplish tasks quickly and easily by comparison? Can I group faders? (Very important feature) What is my budget? What do my options cost? Is there a good selection of plugins? What plugin formats are supported? What hardware is supported? Is there a limit on track count? (Protools looses that one for sure) Ask those questions and pick the winner. Far as sound goes, they're all pretty much the same.
