Juxtapod - from concept to reality (an unique project sponsored by TYROLIT)

A great number of cutting and grinding tools and extreme handcraft skills. That is the secret behind TYROLIT's unique sponsor project Juxtapod. Based on a 80 year-old Ford AA pickup a rolling piece of art was created - a Hot Rod where glass arts fragile expression collides with the muscles in the world of cars.

Juxtapod is a unique exponent of the meeting of two worlds who rarely or never met before - where crystal art glass from Småland meets Swedish car building art. The result is a fully functional car, created in collaboration between metal artist Mattias "LeBeef" Andersson, glass artist Ludvig Löfgren, communication expert John Belin and cult painter Blaster from Italy.

"I have in my entire life been working on this kind of cars, but Juxtapod is by far the most extensive and magnificent I have ever done", says Mattias "LeBeef" Andersson. "And the best part was the metal work."

The original body from 1928 were not perfectly straight and perfectly from the start and hampered the cutting. An angel grinder were used to get straight and clean cuts that could be neatly welded together. Another difficult and demanding area was the modification of the frame.

Ludvig Löfgren, glass artist at Kosta Boda and one of the Swedish glass worlds hottest future names, is the man behind the idea of combining a car with glass. With details such as a fuel tank and the intakes in hand-blown crystal, the car is a sparkling specimen. "I have long had an idea to combine a car with a glass, and with Juxtapod we have shown that it works well", says Ludwig Löfgren. "But it is important that the car will run. It would have been easy to make a car that does not work, but it would not same challenge."

The project Juxtapod is a dream come true for those involved. For TYROLIT is the perfect context to work in, in order to deliver both knowledge and products for cutting, grinding and processing of metal and glass. "We are proud to have been able to participate in the creation of Juxtapod", says Jessica Persson, the Nordic Marketing Manager. "It is a great way to support both handicraft skills and creativity in innovation, values that are important to TYROLIT."

An advanced Hot Rod based on a car from 1928, covers an enormous amount of grinding work. Approximately 1000 small details like bolts, nuts, washers and various mounts and nearly 150 major parts have been grounded, polished and finally chromated. High demands are set on the quality and cooperation between products and machines, as well as on expertise, which TYROLIT has offered.
