Gabby ran. She didn't dare stop or turn back. She knew that if she did, she wouldnt be able to walk away anymore, and shed ruin it for Maddy and Nick again.
Maybe it was because she was crying. Maybe it was because she was looking downward when she was running. But when she knew shed ran far enough from Nick and stopped, she realized she must have took the wrong turn at some point, because she wasnt anywhere near where she meant to go -- the cottage. Instead, she was standing in a grove of tall palm trees. She didn't think it really mattered where she was as long as she was away from Nick, but this was a little scary -- it was dark because of so many trees, the only sound she could hear was a few birds chirping, and no matter which way she turned it was all trees.
She'd completely forgotten about Nick in those few seconds. She slowly looked around. She looked left, she looked right, she looked behind, she looked ahead, she looked up, and she looked down. Still she had no idea which way she was supposed to go. She even forgot which way she came from. But she couldn't just stand there forever, so she decided to just walk straight forward. She jerked at every rustle of a bush, and jumped at every sound of a bird. After walking for quite a while, she saw the end of the grove. She ran, pushing past the tall plants, not daring to stop.
When she burst out from between the trees, she saw a totally different view from what she saw a few seconds ago in the grove. It was a beautiful small beach closed in by cliffs, which were just about twice Gabbys size from the water surface. The water was so clear that she could see the bottom, as well as little fish swimming in it. The sand at her feet was soft as snow, except it was nice and warm from the sun.
"Wow..." She heard herself saying.
She walked a little forward so her feet were ankle-deep in the tepid water. She looked back at the woods she came from, wondering how she was going to get back... she had no idea which way was which in there. When she looked back in front of her, she noticed a small hole in the cliff ahead, and wondered what was beyond it. She took the t-shirt and pants she wore over her swim suit off, and threw them on the dry sand. She kicked off her sandals, and slowly walked into the water, being careful not to step on fish that swam at the bottom. After she got deep enough in the water, she lift her feet off the ground and started to breaststroke her way to the hole in the cliff. Water swished in and out of the hole, which Gabby noticed, was quite big enough for her to swim through. She poked her head out first, and held on to the outside of the hole so she could push herself through.
After getting through the hole, she kicked under the water to keep herself floating, so she could looked around. All she saw was the open sea. She swam a little around the wall of cliffs, and there was the island; there was the grove shed came through, the cottages, the beach... and Nick. It felt like she'd been running for more than half an hour -- and she probably was -- but from where Nick was to where Gabby was didn't seem like 30 minutes of running. That meant Gabby was probably going in circles in the woods. She slapped her forehead, feeling a little bit stupid. Then she looked back at Nick. He was just standing there, not seeming to have moved from when Gabby last saw him about half an hour ago. He was facing the ocean, just staring blankly ahead. Gabby remembered what Nick had said on the boat on their way here -- "Nothing beautiful lasts forever". It was true. Tears started welling up in Gabby's eyes again. She dunked her head in the water to wash them away, and went back through the hole before Nick could spot her.
When she went back inside her new found Secret Beach, she saw Frankie standing there on the sand.
"Frankie!" Gabby called as she swam back to shore. "What are you doing here?"
"I was just getting my swim suit from my cottage, and when I came out, I saw you run by and... you were crying," Frankie said slowly, looking at his feet. "And I followed you here... I was worried."
Gabby smiled. "Thats so sweet," she said, as she walked up the sand and stood next to Frankie.
Frankie smiled back. "It's nice to see you smiling,"
Gabby blushed. "Come on," she said, taking Frankies hand, "Check this out, you can see little fish swimming here!"

*I know it's a weird way to end but forgive meh! xP*
