Metro North Railroad still operates a handful of classic "bulldog nose" F units on some branches in Connecticut. Here 1946-built F10 no 413 thrapes away from Merritt , on the Danbury branch with a peak hour service from Stamford CT.

  • they are not that old. Try 1957 (OK, still pretty darn old!)

  • Built (originally) in November 1946 for the Gulf ,Mobile & Ohio as #880A , so yes it was built that long ago , although it has been extensively rebuilt a few times since.

  • it's dead now :(

i saw it in between the overpass and croton my friend paul who is a conductor told me it will never be alive again

  • there are going to be

  • I heard the m-8s will be here next year!!! I hope they are not shit boxes like the M-7s!

My friend is a conductor and she sometimes she lets me open the doors, pure heaven!!

  • No. The F10s were custom (re)built (from F3As and F7As from the GM&O) for the MBTA. After the MBTA retired them (they bought F40PHs) some ended up being purchased by Metro North who uses them for backup power.

  • yeah!

  • really?

  • can't beat a classic...CSX once had them!

  • FYI, we're watching her depart WB (south) from MERRIT 7 station. She passes block limit GLOVE just south of the station and north of the Glover Ave grade crossing.

  • i was not aware that F's work on peak...

  • And they once had V12 engines, something that LIRR and NY&A still have on their SW6000s! (only as freight/yard movers)
