  • I absolutely enjoyed this novel, I must agree with all the positive reviews. It was well worth the time and effort.

  • I just finished this book. Tremendous. Best book I have ever written. It gives you a picture of slavery that is so far from Hollywood's versions over the years. The book really captures the everyday hell and lack of power experienced. However, the book is so much more than this. A must read.

  • im reading the book right now. Its so powerful and I'm only on page 20!

  • Since when did Ifa come to Jamaica? I have never heard history of that.

  • "Men are no good.' True. Very true. :P LOL.

I LOVED this book. I thought it was going to be very thick, and depressing. (like, for colored girls) But it was VERY interesting, and it was fast and I highly enjoyed it. I love the writing, he really put us inside the mind of Lillith. With all of the characters in the book, good or bad, he cast them in human shades. So even with the slave masters, when they were doing these horrible things, I felt kind of sorry for them. Wonderful book.

  • very good book better than any book about slavery i ever read.so realistic.you put life into this slavery novel.i could smell the funk, the rancid breathe and feel the ass whipping's the hot coals all of it.if there is a movie i hope that the scenes for isobel are more graphic.and she receives the twins that gorgon wished upon her.

  • It's the type of book that really makes you think. You hold your breath from start to finish and when you finish- it's a book that changes you. Excellent work. Brilliant writer and storyteller. Keep it up!

  • This book is beyond terrific! It will astound, terriffy and haunt you but most of all it will stay with you for a very, very long time. Marlon James is in a class of his own. How he managed to craft such a brilliant book, I don't know, but he did it. It's a must read for all interested in slavery and the stories behind the experience of the enslaved.

  • I agree that this book is absolutely brilliant. The strength of the women in it definitely inspired me, and also helped me not to take anything for granted.

  • I love my sweet, dear Lilith.
