[11/28/07 debate submission from Rick Booth of Bensalem, Pennsylvania] In 2005, a Senate insider secretly planted language in Public Law 109-115 to destroy Amtrak Northeast Corridor job commuting with $4,000+ fare increases. No one spotted the words before the vote. Thousands were driven off trains, and Amtrak's NEC ridership in 2006 hit a four-year low, even as rail everywhere else in the U.S. grew. Since the injustice is outrageous, I've taken the fight back to Washington -- NEC protest ride and all. See www.senatorsonatrain.com for the full fight story. It ain't over yet! ;-)

  • Rick, what is the name of the actual station you use to commute from on Amtrak when you went to New York?Is it closer to the Philly area?

  • It's called Cornwells Heights, and it's in Bensalem, PA, just about a mile above Philadelphia's northeast city limit. It's a great little commuting station about 65 minutes from Manhattan's Penn Station by Amtrak. Hardly anyone in NYC realizes that Pennsylvania is that close!

  • I thought that was the station you were talking about.I see it's an expensive commute these days at about $38 each way.I've been interested in your videos because I've seen the huge fare increase in just one year.I use to like to take weekend trips from Wilmington,DE to NYC but can ill afford it now.I live in Dover and I support you efforts to bring this fare increase to light.
