That takes me back...I worked on a ship years ago that had three D399s for electrical generation. The D399 was V-16 and identical to the one you showed with the exception of 4 cylinders. Thanks for posting.

@dognz09 No such thing as "too light for a loco." (Yeah, spelling corrected too.)
The big battle for years was to get power/weight HIGH enough for practical diesel locomotives.
Ever hear of "ballast"? Think concrete a/r.

No problem finding parts, I just came off a vessel with 2 of these D398s and parts are readily available to order.

What do some people refer to caterpillar engines as kitty cat? I don't see the relationship between a caterpillar and kitty cat.

A lot different engine than the D-349, which I had a LOT of time on. The 3500s are garbage compared to either...throw-aways.
