Some early scenes of London's Docklands Light Railway.

Locations seen include Stratford and Poplar stations, the site of Pudding Mill Lane (which opened a few years after the initial 'starter' system) and more.

Also seen are some BR class 315 and London Transport 1962 stock trains.

Filmed in the 1980's using a silent super8 cine camera and in places the image is a little 'soft'.

  • These a great..Please post some more!!

  • I have a few more super 8 films to copy to computer format. Alas at the present time I am not able to copy video to the computer, this is because I filmed in S-VHS format and my video player has gone wrong as as machines for this format are no longer made so I cannot buy a replacement.

  • Thanks.

Just uplifted some more, and all being well this weekend I'll be copying the final few films to the pc

  • btw, I'd like to apologise for the poor quality of the film 'image' - coming from super 8 film it never was as good as modern video, but in processing it for showing 'youtube' make it worse.

  • Cool! It looks like the old station at Heron Quays is in there somewhere. I remember it just after it had closed, the bare island platform compared to the modern covered 2 platform station.

  • @MrPatelsPantry The train is going east into Poplar station & you can see Blackwall power station, which replaced the Blackwall Railway & was in turn replaced by the DLR extension to Beckton!

  • Very historic!

  • Hi. At 2:00, it looks like Battersea Power Station is in view, although this cannot be right. What station is it?

  • Nice film mate :D

  • So much waste land in those days. It's how I prefered, it really. Too many people now and it's all fucked up.

  • there are many S-VHS available to buy on ebay for reasonable prices.

  • Does anyone know the exact year when the last P86s and P89s ran on the DLR? I know they were sold to Germany in the mid 1990's, but I seem to remember them both being taken out of service in 1996, after which only B90/B92s remained. Could someone confirm that? I could've sworn that I rode on P86s in 1995 or thereabouts.
