Alexander Rea (on djembe) in the studio with AJ Silver (on bolas) on August 23rd, 2009 recording a new drum track for AJ's upcoming shows in Germany. AJ will be performing at all five of the theatres of Die GOP Varieté. Learn more at www.variete.de.

This is Alexander's second time recording with AJ. AJ used a drum track last year for a tour with GOP. Both tracks include djembe, dumbek, tambourine, shakers and various other sounds. Both recordings took place at Context Studio in Williamsburg Brooklyn.

Boleadoras are performers using essentially a ball on the end of string. A weapon actually. Below is the Wikipedia entry.

Bolas (from Spanish bola, "ball", also known as boleadoras) are a throwing weapon similar to the surujin made of weights on the ends of interconnected cords, designed to capture animals by entangling their legs. They are most famously used by the South American gauchos, but have been found in excavations of pre-Hispanic settlements, especially in Patagonia, where indigenous peoples used them to catch guanaco and ñandu.
