if you had an injury you would keep your elbow at the side, no arm movement just wrist...

Notice how she is only moving the wrist, and elbow. This is an excellent example of an exercise which will make your wrist and elbow pain worse. To ease your pain, reduce the movement at peripheral joints and move from your centre
