Does it vibrate on the gas pedal too? i have vibrations on the mechanical gas pedal at 2500-3000 RPM and my beetle sounds strange when the motor is warm.

This is typical beetle problem. I drive 02 beetle and had same exact problem. I brought the car to the dealer and they replaced cat converter under warranty. Don't forget, you need to go to dealer before 80.000 miles
