but it is less damaging that any other crops. it's a perennial crop. you only log it once and that it! not like soy or rapeseed where you use fuel every year to harvest, clear the land and replant. don't put us in the same boat as those bushes. 25 years is a long time! after 25 years, through zero burning policy in malaysia, it will be mulched as fertilizers for the new trees.

nah...i dont think so..i think palm oil is good since it is also absorb the carbon as much as the rainforest...but when will the people gonna consider the palm oil as the forest???

There is nothing sustainable about palm oil plantations. I've seen the destruction with my own eyes in Borneo, its disgusting that you make the same mistakes as the Europeans did with their own forests.
"Land already zoned for agriculture" meaning the secondary rain forest which still supports diverse species and could be left to regenerate into old growth forests..but instead is earmarked for COMPLETE HABITAT DESTRUCTION of native species or " sustainable" oil palm plantation, which usually consumes at least 3000 hectares each. Monoculture such as oil palm cannot create a high enough food yield to support the local people.only good for export. less than 5% of the profits go to the farmers..

Rainforests absorb many many times more carbon than palm oil because they are multilayered and the density of vegetation is much higher. Any burning of palm oil or transport of it leads to further emissions.
