@scout2nut It's not only a HG's act, but Tatsunoko's. They made a contract without a conference with others. Both of them are opposed to Big West and Shoji Kawamori. Tatsunoko even tried to stop making Macross series insisting on the copyright of SDF Macross. It became a court case in Japan in early 2000's. In the end, Kawamori's side won. So that Frontier could be made.
This problem has become very complicated both in the US and Japan.

@lunarelI first watched Macross as Robotech as a kid and Fell in Love with the whole thing and began my love for Anime Back in the '80s but alas the copyright problems with Harmony Gold wont allow Macross in to the USA Except where they seperated Robotech into its 3 original animes, we are missing out on properly Subbed or Dubbed Versions of Macross DYRL, Zero, Seven, And Frontiers, some of the greatest action scyfy Animes of all time.
