One of the best selling female artists of all time Nana Mouskouri recorded 'Weiße Rosen aus Athen' for a German documentary about Greece, it became a huge hit seeling over 1 million copies in Germany, and in 1962 she released the English version ' The White Rose Of Athens' which soon became one of her signature tunes. Nana toured extensively around the world as well as recording in 15 languages including Greek, French, English, German, Dutch, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, and Welsh.
In 2008 Nana embarked on her final world tour and gave her final performance on July 23rd at the ancient Herodes Atticus Theatre, in Athens, Greece.
This recording is taken from the original 1962 45 rpm record.

  • Nana's voice is absolutely angelic, and I simply cannot stop listening to it. She pours all of her emotion and soul into every note and brings the music to life.

  • Ignoring the previous stupid comments, this a truly beautiful song, beautifully sung, by a wonderful artiste. I still play my original 45 from almost 50 years ago. There do seem to be some variations re this song.
