Service of Matins
2008 February 4: Monday, 12:00 AM
Concordia University Wisconsin, Rogate Chapel

COME, LET US WORSHIP GOD OUR KING.
Come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, our king and our God.
Come, let us worship and fall down before Christ himself, our king and our God.
Come, let us worship and fall down before Him.

Mount Zion in the far north is the city of the great King.
O Son of God, transfigured on the mountain,
save us who sing to you. Alleluia.
And He brought them to the mountain of His sanctuary, His mountain which His right hand had won.
O Son of God transfigured...
On Mount Zion which He loved, He built as His sanctuary with mighty strength.
O Son of God transfigured...

::The Order of Matins::

O LORD OPEN MY LIPS,
and my mouth will declare Your praise.
Make haste, O God, to deliver me;
Make haste to help me, O Lord.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
Praise to You, O Christ. Alleluia.

:Psalmody:
Blessed be God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
O come, let us worship Him.

O come, let us sing to the Lord,
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving,
let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise.
For the Lord is a great God
and a great king above all gods.
The deep places of the earth are in His hand;
the strength of the hills is His also.
The sea is His for He made it,
and His hand formed the dry land.
O come, let us worship and bow down,
let us kneel before the Lord, our maker.
For He is our God,
and we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand.
(Psalm 95:1 - 7)
Glory be to the Father...
Blessed be God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
O come, let us worship Him.

The LORD reigns; let the peoples tremble!He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!
The LORD is great in Zion; He is exalted over all the peoples.
Let them praise Your great and awesome name!Holy is He!
The King in His might loves justice. You have established equity; You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.

  • yep this is carpatho rus/slavic plainchant style...I dont care if lutherans do it. it's glorious no matter who sings it, and it certainly cant help but encourage Orthodoxy within Heterodoxy. Pleny of good westerna and eastern Orthodox christians come from lutheranism

  • @LiturgicalChants That was a eastern phase we were going through. Don't worry, none of those guys wanted to become Orthodox (with a "big O"). Also, don't miss our Anglican chant tone for the Venite. We're not Anglican either.

    Lutheran.

  • Are you going to school there Rob? Some of us have been there and have drawn inspiration from its liturgical presence. However, I'd say we at CUW have a very different culture, with different opportunities for worship. God bless.

  • Dude, they most certainly are. Do you happen to know the specific origins? Would you call these Serbian or Russian, etc? I'll tag it.

  • Transfiguration of the Lord when Moses and Elijah appeared and spoken with Him! I strongly recommend this for all jews Zionist!

  • Keep it up ! Soon you will find that the "Correct glorification" of our Lord is always beautiful.

  • This IS Orthodox music, in Russian polyphony. WOW, i'm surprised to hear the Lutherans doing it.....and very kewl! :O)

  • Then why did you watch it? It has very little in common with the Benedictine office so what's the point comparing the two?

  • yea this confused the hell outta me, they have an icon and slavic tones lol...at least its almost orthodox :)

  • Thank you from Concordia - Ann Arbor.
