Schrodinger's cat is not a philosphical question, it's a thought experiment designed to explain the uncertainty inherent in quantum mechanics, and specifically the fundamentally random nature of radioactive decays, and the nature of wavefunctions.

Sorry, I get bugged when people extrapolate Quantum Mechanics to normal life.

@overseer06 incorrect. In that later episode the sun sets at the point at which is touches the horizon not because of it being 8 light minutes away but because of light bending through the atmosphere. It is in fact phil jupitus, not alan, that gets rather annoyed at this fact and refuses to understand it. lol. So alan is probably more likely the mildly intelligent bloke down the pub but theres some big gaps and plenty of QI general ignorance in him.

@overseer06 I reckon it to be part of the show's concept. Fry was chosen as the host of the show, appearing as the smart allknowing master with three different guests each show and Alan being the permanent guest appearing as slightly less intelligent than the rest but still funny in an adoring sort of way.
